Atlanta-based fashion tech entrepreneurs launch shopping platform

Provides sustainable special occasion apparel with the community in mind.

Atlanta, GA (February 15, 2016) -- The recently launched Borrowed by Design's (BBD) website allows consumers to rent special occasion dresses directly from other users. Those looking to post dresses on the website for rental are known as "Owners" and are prompted to post their garments along with photos, sizing specifics, measurements, and physical descriptions. Owners can set the desired price, and are encouraged to take into account things like original price, shipping cost, and condition.

From there, the dress in question must be dry-cleaned and shipped to the renter with dry-cleaning tag attached, at the Owners expense. Renters, known as "Borrowers," simply choose a dress that fits their preferences and once worn they are prompted to print out a return label, and send back to the owner at no cost. Dresses can be kept up to two weeks. Interactions between the borrower and the owner are encouraged and then the experience is reviewed and shared.

"Our ultimate goal with BBD is to provide access to a mutually beneficial platform where users not only lend and borrow dresses, but also are given the opportunity to connect with the community, relate to those who share common body types and fashion sense," said Kathryn Ewing, Co-founder of Borrowed by Design.

Owners and Borrowers are also given an opportunity to donate in support of a non-profit. Currently BBD is working with Girls Inc of Greater Atlanta and the National Chapter of Operation Prom, and offer the option of a monetary direct donation. BBD plans to expand this option to Owners and Borrowers around the globe, with the aim in clothing sustainability, mentorship programs, and providing young girls on a low income the opportunity to borrow the dress of their choice at no cost.

This year, BBD will host a series of 'Dress Drives' geared to fill an immediate need for formal dresses size 0-3xl. This campaign will help BBD increase range of sizes across the platform for Borrowers, therefore, increasing revenue and direct donations to the non-profits.

"Our wish is to resuscitate prized garments from the back of the closet, giving the owner some return on investment and the Borrower a chance to make her own treasured memories with the community in mind," said Jennifer Collom-Bluemling, Co-founder of Borrowed by Design.

Acting as the liaison between special occasion Owners and Borrowers, Borrowed by Design aims to turn a profit for all involved, be it monetarily or nostalgically.
