Marketplace for the exchange of dresses introduces social change

(Atlanta, GA)- Borrowed by Design, a sales and rental platform for formal dresses, has developed itself as a social enterprise company. They are an organization committed to engaging in fair business as well as giving back to the community around them. The company was founded in 2013 by Jennifer Bluemling and Kathryn Ewing, with a goal to help women and young girls overcome any obstacles that they may face. And has aligned itself with three influential nonprofit organizations, including: Girls Inc. of Greater Atlanta, SMARHT Girls and Empower 54. Of every transaction made by the company, at least 10 percent of the proceeds go back to these nonprofits, sellers have the option of donating up to 100 percent of their proceeds if they choose. Through this strategic business plan Borrowed by Design can use the products sold in the open market to help drive social change.

 

Charitable Work

In alliance with Empower 54, Girls Inc. of Greater Atlanta, and SMARHT Girls, BBD works to promote the wellbeing of women and girls in the community. Borrowed by Design is a female ran company dedicated to promoting women's equality. The company has obtained gently used gowns from these diverse affiliates, which can be seen on the site, in addition to dresses listed through individuals and fashion designers using the platform.  As of 2017 BBD has helped 260 girls and has had 295 dresses donated to help the cause. The dresses range in price from $15 to $500 as well as a variety of  sizes for any shape. There is also a vast variety of style amongst the dresses: cocktail, bridesmaid, prom and day-time party dresses.

Particularly Empower 54 aids women and children in under developed rural, these areas mainly include nations in Africa, the organization also assists refugees and internally displaced persons. Empower 54 implements health aid, educational programs and programs to end hunger in underdeveloped communities.
